Joining SMAR: Who may join?
SMAR is a trade organization for REALTORS that accepts non-REALTOR members as well. Licensed Agents seeking to become REALTORS may apply online via this web site. Those without real estate licenses but who are engaged in businesses that may benefit from SMAR services may join as Affiliates.
Anyone seeking a career in real estate should be aware of some terminology used on this site. REALTOR is a trademark. It does not simply mean a person is licensed to sell real estate. It means that the licensed agent also abides by the stringent terms of the REALTOR Code of Ethics and agrees to follow the rules, regualtions and bylaws of the National, State and Local Associations of REALTORS. A licensed agent does not become a REALTOR until he or she joins an Association of REALTORS.
