Events
Events tie into several other areas of the web site. Events are objects stored in the database, which means it can be kept and re-used by editing certain details rather than re-creating the entire event. When an event is created, it will be assigned a category, status, registration cutoff date and an expiration date. Active events appear on the member calendar of events and may also be tied to a registration process. Registration can be for indivuals or groups and may be at more than one cost and meal option.
Education events are handled differently from other types of events. Education events require categories of information not found in other events because an education event also ties into the education history tracking and reporting features of the site.
When entering an event, it is important to consider how it will tie into these other functions of the site. Sometimes other functions of the site must be used in conjuction with the event. For example, if you want to link to a form or document within the text describing your event, you'll first need to create a news item or announcement. These items allow douments to be uploaded and linked to the ithem, but an event does not. Load the news item or announcement to promote the event, upload the associated forms or documents, then copy those links into the event description. This encourages the practice of promoting events with coordinated news/announcement items.
