Md Independent Mistakes

2/17/2009

By now, I hope you've heard about our very successful Legislative Luncheon on February 9th.  It is unfortunate that this great event was inaccurately reported in the Friday 13th edition of the Md. Independent (Agents' pleas meet fiscal reality, Business section, page A-18).
Through the omission of the key phrase, "advocates for," the reporter made it seem as if SMAR members do NOT "support initiatives that give distressed homeowners the time needed to renegotiate the terms of their mortgages or sell their homes to avoid foreclosure and laws that would encourage more buyers to the marketplace."
I have been in contact with the reporter to discuss this inaccuracy and am pleased to report that the paper will print a correction in the Wednesday or Friday edition of the Md. Independent this week.  In addition, the article WILL be corrected before it is reprinted in the Enterprise and the Recorder newspapers.
Sadly, through sensationalism the paper misreported the tone of the meeting in the lead statement, "The region's real estate professionals threw themselves on the mercy of the government......."  Those who attended the luncheon know this description could not be farther from the truth.
In addition to the correction, SMAR will write a letter to the editor to address the various inaccuracies in this article.  We have every reason to believe it will be printed.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or comments regarding this matter.
