HASMC applies for funds

12/10/2008

Greetings,

The Housing Authority of St. Mary's County (HASMC) has applied to the Md. Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for approximately $3 million dollars of Federal funding created under the Housing and Emergency Recovery Act of 2008.  These funds are to be used to assist communities in addressing abandoned and foreclosed homes in areas that have been impacted by foreclosures.  All or part of these fund be used for the HASMC's downpayment and closing assistance programs.

SMAR members in St. Mary's County are strongly encouraged to attend this hearing scheduled for Thursday, December 18, 2008 beginnning at 5:30 p.m. in the HASMC office located at 21155 Lexwood Drive, Suite C, Lexington Park, MD.  Please encourage HASMC to make the most of the funds by placing an emphasis on its down payment assistance program.  This program will enable more St. Mary's County citizens to realize the dream of homeownership and will reduce to the greatest extent the number of abandoned and foreclosed homes in the County.

At the hearing, citizens will be furnished with information regarding HASMC's application and planned activities.  To view the map of the affected areas in St. Mary's County, visit the DHCD website at:
