Join your REALTOR® colleagues at a special general membership meeting on Tuesday, July 17th at SMAR Headquarters beginning at 9:30 a.m. We have invited Gene Burner, former Director of the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation to come speak to our members about the impending fiscal crisis facing Maryland and an overview of the tax increase package that is LIKELY to be deliberated at a special legislative session this fall. Register your attendance by sending an email to information@smarweb.org. Computer Drive Have you updated your computer equipment but still hanging onto the old stuff? Now through July 27th SMAR's Community Relations & C.A.R.E. Award Committee is sponsoring a "Computer Drive" to help a local non-profit organization collect old computers and peripherals. SMARTCO (Southern Maryland Applied Research and Technology Consortium) collects old computers, printers, monitors, etc., refurbishes them to be placed, free of charge, in public and private parochial schools, local government agencies and qualified non-profit organizations located primarily within the Southern Maryland region. Drop Off Location: ALL computers and accessories are welcome! Donations can be brought to the REALTOR® Center, 8440 Leonardtown Rd, Hughesville, MD 20637 during normal business hours, Monday-Friday 8:30 am - 5 pm. There is a storage container located in the parking lot behind the REALTOR® Center where you can drop off your donations. The Community Relations & C.A.R.E. Annual Renewal Billing (Dues and SentriLock) SMAR is implementing a new billing system. The changeover to the new system will cause a delay in the mailing of the annual dues billing. Member dues will be mailed in July. SMAR will allow the usual time for payment (30 days) before applying late fees. We will send an email announcement when dues billing is mailed.
The Campaign for St. Mary's Hospice House The August 8th Fundraiser "Life is Short; East Dessert First" being planned by SMAR Past Presidents has been canceled. There are no hospice facilities in all of Southern Maryland at this time. The two closest Hospice Houses are in Annapolis and Baltimore. Calvert County is in the process of building a Hospice House and the St. Mary's construction will soon begin once the campaign reaches $2.3 million. Members are encouraged to make a donation to the Hospice House of St. Mary's, P. O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Please write "REALTOR® in the lower left portion of your check so that the donations from SMAR members can be tracked in the hope of becoming a Legacy Donor.
