On Tuesday, both St. Mary's and Charles County Boards of Commissioners held hearings to revise the zoning ordinance regulations governing signs.
The Board of Commissioners for St. Mary's County approved a one-year extension of the provision to permit one (1) off-site directional real estate sign for the sale of residential property.
The Board of Commissioners for Charles County approved a comprehensive revision to the County sign ordinance. Provisions that most impact the marketing of real estate are:
No sign permit or fee required for:
On-site signs for the sale, lease or rental of property in residential zones not exceeding six (6) square feet.
On-site signs for the sale, lease or rental of property in non-residential zones not exceeding thirty-two (32) square feet.
Off-site signs no larger than four (4) square feet announcing open houses for real estate sales (erected with the property owner's permission and off the public right-of-way) may be posted after noon on Friday and must be removed by noon the following Monday. No more than four (4) signs shall be permitted per house.
