Proposed Charlse County Rental Housing Tax Removed

11/10/2011

Good afternoon colleagues,

A proposal to give the Charles County Commissioners the authority to enact a rental housing tax was removed from the County's proposed 2012 legislative package during last night's public hearing.

This iniative, if enacted, would have imposed a rental tax on residential rental dwellings in Charles County.  We believe this to be unfair to tenants as it would undoubtedly result in an increase in rent further eroding their ability to make ends meet in a difficult economic climate.

A note of thanks to SMAR Legislative Chairman Dontae Carroll for working with our government affairs director in bringing the concerns of the REALTOR community to the attention of our elected officials and for being prepared to testify at the hearing on such short notice.

This is another example of of what RPAC and an effective government affairs program does for members of a REALTOR association.
